GREAT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE!

Ways to get involved:

Special Projects-

We have four ongoing special projects.

1.
"Diagnosis Down Syndrome"
We prepare packets and deliver them to local OB offices and hospitals. We could use help in editing documents, making copies, stuffing packets, and making deliveries. Contact Lori Tullos Barta or lmtullos@yahoo.com or Elizabeth Bradley to volunteer.

2. Education Packet for Educators
We are preparing materials for educators to use in order to more fully include individuals with Down syndrome in the general education classroom. We could use assistance with making copies and CDs of the final packet in late September. Contact Lori Tullos Barta to volunteer.

3. Changing Lives Program
We are in the process of implementing the NDSS Changing Lives Program to educate health care professionals. To become involved, contact Lori Tullos Barta.

4. 2008 Awareness Campaign
We are hoping to prepare awareness packets for community churches; including a curriculum for Sunday schools, talking points for sermons, and tips on creating an inclusive congregation. We could use assistance with putting together a database of congregations, and researching, creating and editing the items mentioned above. In addition, we may plan an event on 3/21 (World Down Syndrome Day) and could use assistance with planning and arranging for child care for attendees. Contact Lori Tullos Barta to become involved.

UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS G-UNIT PUBLIC RELATIONS STUDENTS:
DSACT thanks G-Unit Public Relations students Grace Glenewinkel, Kristen Gorbell, Clare Guzman, and Kimberly Heine, who worked with Jean Louis (2007 DSACT PR Chair) and Lori Barta (2008 President) to formulate a comprehensive public relations plan for DSACT. In addition, they created a survey for local businesses to gauge awareness of the DSACT mission and identify potential funding sources.
Thank you!
